ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

Chris Trew and Tami Nelson met while in improv comedy class in 2004 and both decided they wanted to own their own comedy theater. This dream led to them being the founders of The New Movement, a community comedy theater, which opened in Austin, Texas in 2009.

In 2012, the comedy school became big enough to move from their smaller location to a larger location in downtown Austin, Texas.

The New Movement focuses on five levels of long-form improv that revolve around character development. The five levels are:
  1. Basic introduction to improv
  2. Character work
  3. Patterns
  4. Beats and improv games
  5. Master improv class
The passion and love for comedy from the founders ignites the same emotion in not only the members, but also the audiences that visualize the talent and passion of those involved.

People from all walks of life and different backgrounds join The New Movement. Whether they are rookies, professionals, individuals overcoming their fear of public speaking or simply wanting to meet funny people, they are all unified to celebrate their love for comedy.

“We’re all here because we all love doing comedy and performing. That’s one of the many awesome things about this place.” G-Su Paek, level 2 teacher at The New Movement Theater, said.
